Prof. Cosimo Altomare of the University of Bari, Italy, presented an opening lecture at the prestigious 20th Hellenic Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry (HSMC-20) held April 3-5 at the University of Ioannina’s Karolos Papoulias Conference Center.
Altomare, who serves as a professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Bari and holds a position on the Management Board at CVBF, delivered a presentation at the plenary session titled “In-silico target fishing tools for designing or repurposing drugs for multifactorial and rare design.” His presentation explored innovative approaches to drug discovery and repurposing.
The biannual symposium, jointly organized by the Hellenic Society of Medicinal Chemistry and the Department of Chemistry at the University of Ioannina, marked its 20th anniversary this year. The event brought together researchers and professionals to discuss advancements in medicinal chemistry, including drug design, ADME/Tox properties, synthetic medicinal chemistry, natural products, and computational approaches.
The scientific community was lively and stimulating, creating an excellent environment for the exchange of ideas.
The HSMC-20 continued its 32-year tradition as a significant forum for medicinal chemistry discussions in Greece, with strong support from the Region of Epirus, the Municipality of Ioannina, and the University of Ioannina.
